Local bus man Shane steps up to Management role at Stagecoach

15 Oct 2018

After starting his career in the industry in 1994 at the age of 17 as a platform conductor based in Fareham & Gosport bus stations, working for the Provincial Bus Company, Shane successfully passed his PCV bus test first time in 1996.

Fast forward to 1999, and Shane had landed his first job with Stagecoach, working at the depot in Portsmouth as a driver.

By 2002 Shane had progressed to a Leading Driver role, managing his own father who had also joined Stagecoach as a trainee driver that same year.

In 2005 Shane secured his next job as a depot controller, but was keen on developing his skills and expertise further.  So Shane joined Stagecoach’s Staff Development Programme (SDP) in 2015 and was seconded to Stagecoach in Oxford where he worked closely with the Operations Management team to learn about budgets, staff management, recruitment and health and safety.

Speaking about his new role, Shane said: “I am enjoying the new challenges that I come across now that I am in the management role. I learned a great deal from my experience with the staff development programme and I am looking forward to putting this learning into practice".

Shane will be supported by Operations Manager Colin Ashcroft and they will work together in assessing daily operational performance, staff recruitment and training, service quality and reliability, customer contact and feedback, health and safety, as well as liaison with colleagues in other departments to deliver the best possible customer service.

Edward Hodgson, Stagecoach South's Managing Director said of Shane’s appointment " We are pleased to announce Shane's promotion. He has already gained a wealth of experience in various aspects of the business  and his enthusiasm and commitment over the years is a testament to his dedication to the company and this promotion is well deserved.”.

Shane replaces Mike Armitage who was recently promoted to Operations Manager at Chichester.
