We are unable to allow large mobility scooters for the following reasons:
A code of use for scooters, developed by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), has recently been by South Yorkshire’s largest bus operators.
This has led to changes in the way that operators allow scooters onto low floor buses. Supertram, who is also a member of the CPT, will adopt the principles of the code alongside the bus operators.
Only passengers who hold a ‘Local Bus Scooter Permit’ will be allowed access to the Supertram network when using their mobility scooter.
Local Bus Scooter Permits are part of the Confederation of Passenger Transport’s ‘Code for the use and acceptance of Mobility Scooters on low floor buses’. This is a national scheme that has recently been launched in South Yorkshire.
The requirements of this code are also to be applied to the Supertram network and are as follows:
It is generally more difficult to manoeuvre a scooter onto a bus and the size limitations are more restrictive. Therefore, to ensure that scooters are acceptable on both buses and tram, the assessments referred to will only be carried out by First and Stagecoach (Bus).
Anyone wishing to apply for a permit will need to contact the appropriate operator.
Please see our scooter policy for more detailed information.
