Changes to college student bus travel

12 Mar 2015

Bus operator Stagecoach has introduced changes to travel for College students in Sheffield.

From January 2015, Sheffield College students will need to use a valid NUS (National Union of Students) card or NUS extra card to buy a £1 single bus fare or £7 student week bus ticket.

Previously, students could use a Sheffield College ID card.

Young people with a 16 to 18 Student pass issued by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive can also buy a 70p single fare in South Yorkshire, a Stagecoach £2 South Yorkshire Child dayrider and a £5 South Yorkshire Child bus megarider.

Paul Lynch, managing director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “Unfortunately, the Sheffield College ID cards no longer show an expiry date, which means that drivers can’t ensure they are valid for discounted travel. That’s why we’ve introduced this change.

“Our drivers will be accepting a valid NUS card for £1 single bus fares or £7 student week bus tickets bringing us in line with other local operators.”
