New monthly travel tickets for Sheffield students and apprentices

09 Sep 2016

From Monday 12 September, students at Sheffield College, The University of Sheffield or Sheffield Hallam University and, for the time, apprentices can buy a 28-day travel ticket online to use on the bus or tram in Sheffield.

Monthly Sheffield student bus megariders, Sheffield student tram megariders and Sheffield student bus and tram megariders are available with a valid NUS, NUS Extra, NUS Apprentice card or student ID card.

It is the first time Sheffield apprentices can benefit from Stagecoach’s student ticket range using an NUS Apprentice card as ID with the new tickets.

Emma Phillips, an apprentice at DJB Recycling in Sheffield, said: “Having access to Stagecoach’s student ticket range will not only help save money on the cost of getting to and from work but the new monthly ticket means you can also travel by bus to college or leisure activities on an evening or at a weekend.”

Students and apprentices will be able to use Xtra automatic monthly payment tickets on the bus or tram in Sheffield which means they can save money without having to remember to buy a new ticket each month.

Stagecoach’s student ticket range already includes the £7 Sheffield student bus megarider, offering unlimited weekly travel on all buses in Sheffield and will now be available to apprentices using the NUS Apprentice card.

Single tickets, which can be bought on any Stagecoach bus in Sheffield, are increasing from £1 to £1.20. The tickets will however be made accessible to apprentices with a valid NUS Apprentice card.

Matt Davies, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “The introduction of the new monthly ticket range is about making bus and tram travel as simple, easy and cost-effective as possible and we are really pleased to be extending this to apprentices so even more young people can benefit from our fares.

“Our flexible weekly and monthly tickets are incredibly popular because they provide unlimited travel on Stagecoach buses and trams in Sheffield, saving students and apprentices time and money compared to buying individual tickets.
