Bus changes to improve punctuality in South Yorkshire

Changes designed to improve bus services in South Yorkshire are set to be introduced by leading operator Stagecoach.

Based on feedback from customers and continuous monitoring of buses, alterations including minor timetable changes will come into effect from Saturday April 29 with the aim of boosting punctuality.

Minor timetable changes will be made to Service X19, with the 16:45 departure from Barnsley (Monday–Saturday) leaving at 16:40 and operating five minutes earlier to Doncaster.

Changes to improve punctuality will also be made on service X20 Barnsley to Doncaster during Monday–Friday peak hour journeys.

Minor changes to timetables will be introduced on services 20 and 21 on Monday–Friday peak hour journeys between Barnsley and Dodworth to improve punctuality, whilst minor changes will provide a later departure from Barnsley to Hoylandswaine via Penistone.

Service 22 will also see minor timetable changes on Monday–Friday peak hour journeys between Barnsley and Dodworth.

Minor changes will be made to services 26 Barnsley to Wombwell and 27 Wombwell to Barnsley to improve punctuality and coordination with services 28c Barnsley to Hemsworth and 30a Barnsley to Pontefract. There will also be some minor changes to timetables  on services running to and from XPO Logistics in Barnsley on early Sunday morning journeys.

Service 28c Barnsley to Hemsworth will also see minor changes to improve punctuality.

Timetable changes will see the evening and Sunday services on 29a and 30a Barnsley to Pontefract operate as service 30a and extended to Brierley, Park Avenue. At XPO Logistics, during shift change times, the service will operate via XPO and terminate at Nancy Crescent.

Other alterations include minor changes to some arrival times in Barnsley on services 67 and 67a, Barnsley Interchange to Wombwell, while on service 218 the Sunday 21:35 Mexborough to Rawmarsh journey will be extended to Rotherham.

There will also be minor changes to Monday–Friday peak journeys on the service 219/219a Barnsley Interchange to Doncaster Interchange, and the 07:20 will depart earlier at 07:10.

Minor changes to times to improve punctuality will be made on service 220 Wath to Doncaster, and there will be some minor redistribution of running time on service 222 with slight timetable changes between Wombwell and Barnsley.

The 08:40 Schooldays only journey on service 265 from Barnsley to Ecclesfield will now depart at 08:45 and terminate at Chapeltown.

Matt Davies, Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We pride ourselves on catering our services to our customers needs where possible - many of the alterations we are making are the result of feedback from customers on how we can continue to improve our services.”

“We believe this is why we ranked highly in a recent transport watchdog survey, with an overall passenger satisfaction rate of 89 per cent – four per cent higher than the regional average.

“Stagecoach also scored a high rating in South Yorkshire for punctuality of services at 83 per cent, compared with the national average of 74 per cent.
