  • Stagecoach Yorkshire and Stagecoach Supertram are offering free bus and tram travel to armed forces personnel carrying ID attending local Armed Forces events
  • Activity supports ongoing work of Stagecoach Group to support the armed forces community

Stagecoach Yorkshire and Stagecoach Supertram are helping to support Armed Forces Day 2017.

In a show of support to armed forces personnel, Stagecoach bus and tram companies in Yorkshire will be offering free travel to armed forces personnel carrying military ID card or veteran’s badge to special events in June.

Personnel and Veterans travelling to events on Armed Forces Day on 24 June or to Chesterfield Armed Forces Day on 26 June will be welcomed aboard for free so long as they are carrying their military ID card or veteran’s badge.
Armed Forces Day is a chance for the public to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

With events planned in Rotherham, Doncaster and Chesterfield. (Details can be found here: ) it is hoped that personnel will take up the offer to travel across South Yorkshire and Chesterfield to the event of their choice.

Matt Davies, Stagecoach Yorkshire said; “We are delighted to once again be supporting our Armed Forces communities in South Yorkshire and Chesterfield in this way. By providing free bus and tram travel to military personnel we hope to be able to give a well-deserved morale boost for our local troops.”

The offer complements Supertram's ongoing committment to helping the armed forces community in a number of ways:
  • £1 single flat fare for service personnel on production of a military ID card- saving a third on the cheapest adult single currently available
  • Guaranteed entry to the first stage of the Supertram recruitment process Supertram uses First Military Recruitment and the RFEA -a charity working with service leavers to recruit new members of their engineering team.
In March 2015, Stagecoach Group signed the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in support of the Armed Forces Community. As a signatory of the Covenant, the company recognises the value serving personnel; regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to both the country and businesses across the country.

Later the same year the company was awarded the silver award through the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). The scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
