Where to meet Santa in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire

24 Nov 2017

You don’t have to go to the North Pole to meet Santa!

Santa's list

It’s that time of year – the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder, and every day we say to ourselves “we’ll sort out the rest of the Christmas shopping tomorrow.” When you’ve been around for decades’ worth of Christmases, it can lose its sparkle, however now is the time to ensure your little ones experience the magic of Christmas…and what better way to do that then with a visit to Santa Claus?!

We have mapped out a few of the best places to meet Santa across Yorkshire and Derbyshire so that you can enjoy those precious years of watching their eyes light up as they receive a gift from the man himself – before they catch you struggling down the attic steps on Christmas Eve with their new bike that is…

The Alhambra Centre

4pm and 6pm - every Wednesday from 22nd Nov – 20th Dec

If you’re pressed for time this year (like most of us!) then you can easily fit a visit to Santa in around your Christmas shopping, as the Alhambra are putting on a Supper with Santa event this year! Milk and cookies will be provided, along with a magical bedtime story told by the big guy himself, and since late night shopping has now kicked in, you’ll still have time to hunt for a few presents.

Worsbrough Mill

10am-8pm – Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th Dec

If you’re already feeling that little bit festive, Worsbrough Mill are putting on two great days of Christmassy fun, including festive face painting, Christmas crafts, food, drinks, music and of course – Santa’s Grotto! What better way to escape from worrying about whether the mother-in-law will insist on being involved in the Christmas dinner preparations (again!) or whether your daughter will be upset because you didn’t buy her a pony (she already has a hamster and that’s more than enough for a 6 year old) than spending a day out with the family, eating some lovely food and browsing the trinkets for sale - and rediscovering what Christmas is all about.

Elsecar Heritage Centre

Saturdays and Sundays from the 9th – 23rd Dec

Santa has left his reindeers at the North Pole, and is making his way to Elsecar by train! This ever-popular annual tradition is a must for families in the local area – what better way to meet Santa than on board a train where his little helpers provide juice, biscuits and chocolate! Santa makes sure to visit every child, handing them a lovingly wrapped gift and listening to their Christmas wishes, whilst you can sit back with a festive tipple and a mince pie!

Sheffield Christmas Market

Everyday from 15th Nov until Christmas Eve

The Christmas market has once again landed in Sheffield, featuring over 50 stalls and of course, Santa’s grotto where your little ones can meet the man himself – Santa Claus! Setting up camp in the iconic Peace Gardens, the Sheffield Christmas market is the place to go if you are looking for decorative gifts and handmade trinkets, or if you are in the mood to try some of the many treats and delicacies. With so much festive fun in one place – this could be a visit to Santa that you can enjoy even more than the kids!

Crystal Peaks

Everyday from 18th Nov 2017 until Christmas Eve

If you’re looking for something a bit different, Crystal Peaks has not only a Christmas skating rink, but a “Gingerbread craft room” where children can make their very own elf hat and help out Santa’s Gingerbread Elves with some festive crafts!

Kelham Island Museum

Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of Dec

Over 130 stalls await at this beautiful, Victorian-inspired market – and plenty of activities for the kids! They’ll be busy riding the ferris wheel, meeting the characters that seem to have jumped straight out of a Dickens novel – plus a snow queen on stilts. They’ll love helping the elves make decorations inside Santa’s grotto and watching the blacksmith make the reindeers’ shoes – you may have to remind the little ones that Santa is waiting to hear all about their Christmas list! And what’s more — with the market being just a short walk (or even shorter bus ride!) through the city centre, you can nip for something for tea on the way home, if you haven’t already filled up on mine pies…

Chesterfield Market Hall

Every Saturday from 25th Nov then everyday from Thursday 14th Dec – Saturday 23rd Dec

Christmas shopping is always going to be hectic, and entering just one tightly packed shop is enough to make anyone want to turn around and go home; especially if you have the kids in tow. With Santa setting up camp in the market hall this year, what better excuse to take half an hour away from the madness than to see the young ones’ faces light up as they enter the grotto of Father Christmas. No child leaves empty handed either – Santa has a gift for every little visitor, and hopefully the excitement will keep them occupied until you make it home…just another two shops to check before you give up on finding those overly-priced football boots your nephew wants…

Bolsover Castle

Every Saturday from 25th Nov until 23rd Dec

Santa is taking time away from his busy schedule to make his way to Bolsover Castle this year for “An Audience With Santa”. With festive decorations aplenty, it is a great opportunity to take the young ones to meet Santa away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, allowing you to relax as they listen in awe to the fantastic stories he has to tell.

Travelling from Chesterfield? Our services 82 and 83 will get you there!
