Stagecoach adds extra late Service X17 journeys between Meadowhall for workers

Stagecoach’s recent Gold X17 route extension between Barnsley, Meadowhall, Sheffield, Chesterfield and Matlock is set to see further improvements following customer feedback.

The bus operator has announced some extra later evening and weekend journeys, in partnership with SYPTE (South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive).

From 4 November, an extra journey from Meadowhall to Barnsley will run at 9.15pm on Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays an additional journey will run from Barnsley to Meadowhall at 7.35pm, and an extra journey will take passengers from Meadowhall to Barnsley at 8.15pm.

A later bus to Sheffield, Chesterfield and Matlock will leave Meadowhall at 9.16 pm on Mondays to Saturdays.

The last departures on Sundays are amended to leave Meadowhall at 5.12 pm towards Barnsley and at 5.13 pm and 6.17 pm towards Sheffield and Chesterfield.

A fleet of eight new Gold buses was launched on the service in October, which feature high-back, Italian hand-stitched e-leather seats, ambient lighting, free Wi-Fi and USB charging points – a £1.9 million investment by Stagecoach.

Matt Davies, managing director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “The X17 route between Barnsley, Meadowhall, Sheffield, Chesterfield and Matlock has always been popular with our customers, but since the route extension we’ve noticed an increasing demand for journeys between Barnsley and Meadowhall, to allow people to travel to and from work.

“We’ve worked closely with SYPTE to put in place some extra journeys that will significantly improve the travel options available to people working at Meadowhall and living in Barnsley, and we’re hoping that this benefits the local community.”
