Stagecoach drivers choose four local charities to receive donations
Stagecoach Yorkshire has donated £20,000 to four local charities to help change the lives of children and families directly affected in the local community.
Drivers from the Rawmarsh and Barnsley depots made the donation from the 'Employee Charity Fund', a collection of funds overseen by Union representatives and senior management, in aid of local causes.
The charities the drivers chose to donate to included the Tiny Hearts Appeal at Barnsley Hospital Charity, Barnsley Hospice, Bluebell Wood and Age UK Barnsley, who all received a donation of £5,000.
Barnsley Hospital Chairman, Steve Wragg said: “This is a wonderful donation to our Tiny Hearts Charity, especially as we were chosen by the drivers and staff of Stagecoach. It’s great that they wanted to support the community that they serve as well.
The money will help us to buy state of the art equipment for our brand new neonatal ward and it will help support babies who are born prematurely.”
David Hall, corporate fundraiser for Bluebell Wood, said: “The donation received from Stagecoach is absolutely amazing. £5000 is a huge amount that will go a long way to help support the children and families we care for.
“£5000 could sponsor an activity coordinator for two months meaning all the children that access Bluebell Wood will be able to enjoy activities like taking part in messy play, Tac-Pac, fun experiments as well as trips out to attractions such as Eureka, The Yorkshire Wildlife Park and The Butterfly House.
“From all of us here at Bluebell Wood we’d like to say a massive thank you to the teams over at Stagecoach for this wonderful support and for helping us make even more fabulous memories.”
Simon Atkinson, corporate fundraiser for Barnsley Hospice said: “We’re delighted to receive such a generous donation from the drivers from Stagecoach. It’s amazing when large companies show such wonderful generosity to local charities like us. It helps massively!”
“Today is a shining example of how important it is to help the local community. Supporting local charities like Barnsley Hospice can go a long way to helping a number of families going through a tough time. £20,000 is an incredible amount of money that will go a long way between the four charities.”
Stagecoach staff from Rawmarsh and Barnsley depot have supported various charities for many years, with previous fundraising activities including supporting Hattie’s bus tour of Yorkshire with Age UK, a bed push, car wash, raffles and competitions.
Sue Hayes, operations director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We take great pride in being a community focused organisation and playing our part in supporting the charities and organisations in our local area.”
“We look forward to continuing our ongoing relationship with each charity and we are really pleased this donation will make such a difference to the amazing people these charities support.”
