Stagecoach X10 celebrates birthday in style with national award nomination
Stagecoach Yorkshire recently celebrated the first birthday of popular X10 Stagecoach Express route between Barnsley and Leeds, as well as it reaching the shortlist for a national transport award.
The express service launched on 28 October 2017 and runs 7 days a week from Barnsley to Leeds, calling at New Lodge, Darton, Kexborough then travelling via the motorway straight to Leeds City Bus Station. Late night journeys are also available on Fridays and Saturdays.
Modern coaches are used, offering customers comfortable coach seats, charging points and free on-board Wifi.
As part of the celebrations to mark the one year anniversary of the X10 Stagecoach Express, customers were given breakfast bars or cakes as they boarded the coach. Staff at Barnsley depot, who run the service, were also treated to cakes and celebrations.
The service has also been shortlisted in the Making Buses a Better Choice category at the UK Bus Awards, which many consider to be the most prestigious national bus industry award scheme.
The award recognises projects and innovations which improve the attractiveness of bus services in towns and cities across Great Britain. The team will now head to London on 20 November to see if they can bring the gong home for Barnsley’s X10 Stagecoach Express.
Matt Davies, Managing Director at Stagecoach Yorkshire said: “We are really pleased to see how loved the X10 Stagecoach Express service is, and how it’s been embraced by the people of Barnsley and our dedicated team of drivers. A survey conducted earlier this year found that 99% of X10 passengers would recommend it to a friend – and many already had.”
To be shortlisted for a UK Bus Award for the service is an exceptional achievement, especially after just one year. The route has carried 136,846 passenger journeys during its first year; taking people to work, connecting them to Leeds for a day out shopping or enjoying the city’s nightlife, it’s a really great service for local people.”
