In line with the latest government guidance, we've put in place further measures in England to help customers practice social distancing. This includes limiting the available seats on buses.

Face coverings are compulsory when using public transport in England and Scotland. In Wales from the 27 July it will be compulsory to wear a three layer face covering on public transport.

What's happening and where?

In partnership with the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), the Supertram Rail Replacement Project will continue in 2020. 

From Saturday 06 June - Friday 24 July 2020, trams are unable to operate beyond Gleadless Townend due to rail replacement work taking place at White Lane.

Please note that dates may change as the works progress.

The following tram service is in operation during this area:

Dedicated Tram Replacement Service

From Monday 29 June 2020, Powells Bus Company will be operating the BL1 bus service on behalf of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.

The service will operate between Gleadless Townend and Halfway, connecting with trams at Gleadless Townend. Details of the bus servicecan be found on the Travel South Yorkshire website.


Alternative Travel Options:

Customers can use the following bus services as an alternative to the tram:

  • Service 120 provides links between Halfway, Crystal Peaks, Moss Way and the city centre
  • Service 8 provides links between Crystal Peaks, Moss Way, Hackenthorpe, Birley Moor Road, Birley Lane and the city centre
  • Services 50, 53 and 80a provide links between Birley Moor Road and the city centre
  • Service 252 provides a link between Gleadless Townend and Crystal Peaks

Tram Only Tickets:

To help provide valuable travel options to key workers at this time we will accept Stagecoach Tram Only tickets on our buses in Sheffield. Please note – The bus must be travelling in areas where the tram runs and the following conditions apply.

Tram Only tickets can only be used to make similar bus journeys to those normally taken on the tram. The ticket is not valid for journeys beyond these areas where the final destination could not be reached by tram.

Tram Only ticket must be valid and normal terms apply.
