Electric Vehicles in Perth

New Electric Vehicles Coming to Perth!

We are excited that Perth is about to receive the region’s very first full electric buses!

Being fully electric means the buses are charged at our depot on Inveralmond Road and have zero emissions, which also means a quieter, smoother journey.  They also have USB charging points at each seat, interior LED lights and contactless payment facilities creating a relaxing experience for passengers.

The vehicles were built locally in Falkirk by global bus manufacturer, ADL in partnership with BYD, the company’s partner for electric buses in the UK and Ireland.  Locally headquartered, low carbon energy company SSE are also partnering with Stagecoach to deliver the new electrical infrastructure at Perth depot.

This investment by Stagecoach, and supported by the Scottish Ultra-Low Emissions Bus Scheme by the Scottish Government, is part of the company’s target of a zero-emissions bus fleet by 2035, and a commitment to become net zero by 2050. (Read more about our sustainability strategy.)

Public Launch

We had planned a public launch event of the 9 new buses on Saturday 18th December in Perth to allow members of the community and customers see the new vehicles for themselves, to learn more, jump onboard, pick up some freebies and even meet Santa.  However, in light of the latest Covid restrictions, we've made the decision to cancel this event and hope to rearrange for some time in January, should the restrictions ease and ahead of the vehicles officially hitting the roads. Keep an eye out for any announcements on this on our social media channels in the new year!  (Though sadly, Santa will probably have hung up his boots for another year by then!)
