One Saturday in the middle of August 1986 a fleet of maroon and grey midi-buses took to the streets of Orpington and the surrounding area bearing the new branding “Roundabout”. This event is being remembered by an open day at Bromley bus garage on Saturday 13 August. Examples of buses used by Roundabout will be on display, along with others in the liveries of companies that began working London bus routes in the early days of route tendering.
The day also marks the centenary of route 109, which later became the 227 running through Beckenham and Bromley.
In addition to vintage buses on display, there will be enthusiast stalls, displays by the police and local schools and family activities organised by the London Transport Museum
Last, vintage buses will running on parts of routes 227 and 61.
The garage, on Hastings Road near Bromley Common, will be open from 10:30 to 16:00. Admission is free, but proceeds from programme sales will be donated to local charities.
