Face coverings are compulsory when using public transport in England and Scotland. In Wales you must wear a 3 layer face covering on public transport and put it on before travelling unless you are exempt. It is also now compulsory to wear face coverings when using indoor public transport hubs in England only.

Stagecoach student bus passes are available to any student aged 16 or over in higher or further education. There's no upper age limit. All you will need is student photo ID such as an NUS card or your College or University ID Card to purchase and to show the bus driver each time you travel.

If you are living in the popular student areas of Rusholme, Fallowfield, Didsbury or Withington Stagecoach and Magic bus services run past the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Royal Northern College of Music to the city centre 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. In this area we run buses more frequently and later than any other bus company. 

This map shows you the popular halls of accommodation, the university campus and where your nearest bus stops will be. 

If you wish to travel to the North Campus of the University, service 147 runs between West Didsbury, Fallowfield, University of Manchester campus areas at Oxford Road and Sackville Street to Piccadilly Rail Station. Buses run  Monday to Friday.

Buying your bus pass online is quick and easy and we will deliver your bus pass to you in up to three working days. You will receive a Student Smart Card to use on the bus each time you travel. Having a Smart Card means you can reuse this again and again. Remember to carry your student ID with you every time you travel. No student ID – your bus pass could be confiscated.

Receiving a Student Smart Card also gives you the peace of mind that if your bus pass is lost or stolen we will replace it for free!

Pay for your student bus pass at one of our Agents. 

For your safety and to reduce contact, this year all student bus passes are issued online.

You can pay for your bus pass at one of our Agents who will be issue a code to you to order your ticket online. 

Until your ticket arrives you will have to continue to pay for your bus travel, so you once you have your code please order your ticket online as soon as you can. You will receive your ticket in the post within three working days of ordering it.

  • University of Manchester Students’ Union (from 14 September)

FAQs

What happens if I lose my Manchester student bus pass?  

Student Smart card

If you buy your student bus pass online and lose your Student Smart card please notify us either by logging into the My account section of this website or by contacting the StagecoachSmart Helpdesk on 0345 810 1000. 

Lines are open 07:00 to 22:00, 7 days a week, excluding Christmas Day
*Calls are charged at geographic rates (the same as 01/02 numbers) and are included in call packages from both landlines and mobiles.

A replacement Student Smart card will be posted to you free of charge.

Paper Student bus passes

If you lose your paper Student bus pass please complete and submit the lost ticket form.

A charge of £25 is applicable to replace a paper ticket and     only one replacement will available  in an academic year.

 

Is there any free travel for students and staff in Manchester?

University of Manchester

Travel reinstated from Monday 21 September 2020. If you are a student or member of staff from University of Manchester you may travel free between the North and South Campus on magic bus 147.  Just show your University ID to the driver. 

Free travel will be available from the following stops only:

From South Campus to North Campus
1. University (outside Students Union)
2. University (near Booth Street West)
You can travel as far as Sackville Gardens (Whitworth Street).

From North Campus to South Campus
3. University (Vimto Park)
4. Conference Centre (Charles Street)
You can travel as far as the  University (outside Stopford Building).

If you are travelling outside the campus area you will need to pay for your journey or hold a valid ticket.

University of Salford

If you are a student or member of staff from University of Salford you may travel free between the Adelphi Street and MediaCityUK on service 50 and 51.   Just show your University ID to the driver.

You can check the area of free travel on the service 50 zone map.
If you are travelling outside the campus area you will need to pay for your journey or hold a valid ticket.


 

^Based on Annual Manchester Student bus pass £265, equivalent travel for 10 months using megarider Xtra tickets £620. Saving 57%.
