SmartZone TeesRider

The multi-operator bus ticket for the Tees Valley

SmartZone is valid on all Stagecoach, Arriva and Go North East bus services across Tees Valley - which means you can jump on the first bus that comes!

The smart way to get around by bus

SmartZone tickets are loaded onto a smart card, rather than a paper ticket.

Weekly tickets can be purchased online or on the bus. Monthly tickets can be purchased online only.

Where to  buy a SmartZone TeesRider

SmartZone tickets can also be bought from your local travel shop:

  • Stagecoach on Teesside, 79 High Street, Stockton on Tees, TS18 1AF
  • Arriva, 109 High Street, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 1BB
  • Arriva, Newport Road Bus Station, Middlesbrough, TS1 5EA / TS1 5AH

How it works

If you don’t already have a smart card we can send you one with your first order (mind, this will take up to five days). When buying online you will have to select the date you want the ticket to start from.

Because your SmartZone ticket will be loaded onto a smart card they are super easy to use – just put the smart card on the top of the ticket machine on the bus. They are really secure as they can be replaced or cancelled if they become lost.

Once you’ve got the StagecoachSmart card, Arriva Connect or Go North East key smart card you can buy weekly tickets on the bus from the driver. Tickets are also available over the phone from Go North East on 0191 420 5050.

You can see the full boundaries on the SmartZone TeesRider zone map, and full network of buses on the Teesside and Hartlepool route maps.

*When you purchase a product online, it is ‘activated’ on the smart card when you make your first trip. Depending on the website you purchase your ticket from initially, you will have to activate the ticket on one of those buses. For example, if you buy on then you will have to use a Stagecoach bus first. This is the same for Go North East and Arriva.
