Teesside and Hartlepool service changes

From  Sunday  20  August  2017  we're  making  some  changes  to  our  routes  in  Hartlepool,  Stockton  and  Middlesbrough... come  along  to  meet  the  team  and  learn  more  about  the  changes.

In  order  to  improve  bus  service  reliability,  and  to  closer  meet  contemporary  customer  demands,  we  are  making  a  number  of  changes  to  bus  services  in  the  area.

However,  once  the  changes  take  effect,  we  want  to  invite  our  customers  to  discuss  the  changes  in  more  detail.  Please  join  us  at  the  below  meeting  to ask  questions  or  express  any  concerns  you  may  have.

Service 1

To improve reliability and better reflect changes in customer travel patterns, the service will operate between High Tunstall, Hartlepool Town Centre and Seaton Carew every 15 minutes. The service will continue to operate to Middlesbrough every 30 minutes. We have also allocated additional time where needed in areas particularly affected by delays.

Service 3/3A/4

To reflect changing customer demands, service 4 will be withdrawn. However, the service will be replaced in a number of areas by services 3/3A, each operating hourly and combining as a half hourly service along most of the route.

We are pleased to announce that the full length of Merlin Way at Bishop Cuthbert has now been adopted and can be used by buses. Therefore, the service will continue north beyond its existing terminus up to the Tall Ships pub, continuing in a one-way loop to Clavering and Hart Station via the A179, Calvering Road (Belasis Grove), Gillen Arms, King Oswy Drive. The service will return via West View Road, A179, Tall Ships Pub, Merlin Way then on to Hartlepool Town Centre and South Fens. These services will continue to allow customers to travel from Clavering and King Oswy Drive to Hartlepool Marina. Following customer requests, there will also be additional journeys via High Tunstall College in both directions at peak times.

As a result of ongoing issues with indiscriminate parking on Elwick Road, service 3 will be re-routed to instead operate along Park Road. This part of the route will be served hourly, with service 3A alternatively operating via York Road, Blakelock Gardens and Oxford Road (to replace service 4).  Both services will then continue half hourly to South Fens via the existing service 3 route via Owton Manor Lane.

Service 6

There will be some minor daytime timetable changes with additional time added in certain areas, particularly during the busy afternoon period.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of a half hourly evening service between Clavering and Hartlepool Town Centre Monday to Thursday, with the last bus from the Town Centre at 2312. To closer match customer demands and provide a clear, standardised timetable throughout the week, the Friday and Saturday evening service will be reduced slightly to match that of Monday to Thursday. Sunday timetables will continue unchanged.

Service 7

There will be some minor daytime timetable changes with additional time added in certain areas, particularly during the busy afternoon period.

In order to provide a clear, standardised timetable throughout the week we will operate additional later journeys beyond 2200 until after 2300 hours Monday to Thursday, to match that of the Friday and Saturday service. Sunday timetables will continue unchanged.

Service 10/10A/11

Service 10 will be increased to every 20 minutes during daytimes between Middlesbrough, James Cook Hospital, Coulby Newham and Lingfield Park, and timetables will be revised to improve reliability.

In response to customer requests, Service 10 will be amended to divert via Broadwell Road in Easterside. However, the service will still serve The Derby turning circle. There will also be some minor daytime timetable changes with additional time allocated where needed in certain areas, particularly during the busy afternoon period. Following requests, additional journeys will also operate up to approximately 2000 hours to cater for hospital visiting periods.

In order to provide simpler route, the service 10A Sunday daytime service will be replaced by journeys operating the standard 10 route, to similar times.

Regrettably, owing to changing customer demands, service 11 will be withdrawn. However, in most cases, customers will still have frequent alternatives such as services 10, 12 and 13.

Service 12

The route will remain unchanged but the service will be revised to operate every 12 minutes during daytimes to improve reliability. We have also carried out detailed analysis of journeys across the day and given them additional time where needed in areas regularly affected by delays, particularly during the busy afternoon period.

Service 13

The route and basic frequency will remain unchanged but we have made some minor timing changes to improve reliability, and allocated additional time where needed in areas regularly affected by delays, particularly during the busy afternoon period.

Service 14

To reflect changing customer demands, the service will be revised to operate every 30 minutes during daytimes.

Service 34/34A

We have introduced a new Service 34A which will operate the same route as service 34 (Middlesbrough – Billingham – Low Grange), except that from Billingham Town Centre to Low Grange the service will operate the loop in reverse of service 34, offering new journey opportunities. Service 34 & 34A will combine to offer a service to Middlesbrough every 15 minutes, and will combine with service 52 to offer a frequent service from Low Grange to Billingham Town Centre and Billingham Green.

We are delighted to announce that following requests, we will be trialling an hourly service 34 on Sundays between the hours of approximately 0930 and 1730; we hope that this will prove particularly useful for customers working and shopping in Middlesbrough.

Service 35

In order to improve reliability, service 35 will operate a revised route and will no longer serve the Stoney Oak or Finchale Avenue. Customers from these points should use alternative services 34/34A, which will operate to an improved frequency of up to every 15 minutes. Additionally, following requests, a new service 34 will operate on Sunday daytimes.

From Billingham towards Wolviston Court service 35 will operate a one way loop via Whitehouse Road, Wolviston Mill Lane, Thames Road, Walkworth Road, Rievaulx Avenue, Wolviston Road and, following requests, will serve the Billingham Swan stop on Wolviston Road. From Billingham Town Centre towards Stockton the route remains unchanged. There are also changes to the timetable to provide additional time where needed in certain areas, particularly during the busy afternoon period.

Service 36/37/38

To improve reliability and better reflect changes in customer travel patterns, the service 36 will no longer serve Hartlepool Marina and will terminate in Hartlepool Town Centre. The service will operate a one way loop via Park Road, A689 Stockton Road, Victoria Road and York Road before returning towards Stockton and Middlesbrough.

There will be some minor daytime timetable changes with additional time added where needed in certain areas, particularly during the busy afternoon period. No changes to services 37 & 38.

Service 39

The route will remain unchanged; however, to improve reliability the service will see a minor reduction in frequency to every 10 minutes during daytimes. We have also allocated additional time where needed in areas particularly affected by delays.

Service 52

The route will remain unchanged but the service will see a minor reduction in frequency to every 15 minutes during daytimes. Buses will see greater co-ordination between Stockton and Billingham with service 36, and between Billingham and Low Grange with service 34/34A. We have also allocated additional time where needed in areas particularly affected by delays.

Service 58

The route will remain unchanged but we are pleased to announce an increase in frequency of this popular service up to 10 minutes during most of the day. We have also allocated additional time where needed in areas regularly affected by delays, particularly along Durham Road.

Service 59

The route and frequency will remain unchanged but we have made some very minor timing changes to improve reliability.
