What is there to do along the Buchan routes?

We’ve put together a few of the things you can do on the Buchan routes, you can check where the bus stops are using our journey planner.

Travel on services 60 X60 61 or 63 from Aberdeen to Peterhead

If Union Square in Aberdeen is the start or end of your journey why not do a bit of shopping, grab a bite to eat, catch a movie. If you want to venture out with the Union Square shopping centre for some culture take a short walk to The Green and start your NuArt tour, look at the incredible artwork that is dotted around the city centre. Maps are available from the NuArt website.

Get off the bus at Balmedie and take a trip down to the beach – don’t forget your bucket and spade. Or a boogie board for the sea and big sand dunes!

Head to the next beach in Newburgh and you might get a little surprise… SEALS! This beach is a popular place for seals to congregate, watch them move, see them swim and hear them speak.

Ellon Park and Ride
is an excellent opportunity to make you journey more environmentally friendly, why not get the bus from here to your final destination whether that’s continuing to Peterhead or Aberdeen. You can also come to the park and ride to connect to the brand new 747 service to the airport (LINK), making your holiday journey that little bit easier.

Practise your swing in Cruden Bay, where Cruden Bay Golf Club was ranked #56 of World Golf Courses (according to Golf Digest). You never know you might even spot the next Tiger Woods!

Get dropped right outside the Peterhead Prison, step back in time and walk through Scotland’s Toughest Jail. Audio sets are given so you can take the tour at your own pace.

Travel on services 67 X67 68 X68 from Aberdeen to Fraserburgh

For university students, grab the Buchan services to get to Aberdeen University, just a 5-10 minute drive from the city centre. Or for the public take a wonder round the idyllic campus or visit the Zoology Museum where you will see over 75,000 specimens including taxidermy, skeletal material, models and more.

Diverting from Aberdeen, head to
Ellon and get a behind the scenes look at Brewdog HQ with their Brewery tours. Sample the food and the freshest beer made on site.

Venture to
Mintlaw and take a walk visit Aden Country Park, home to Aden House, a mansion which was used as army barracks in World War 2 which caused the house to collapse leaving the ruins which are maintained to this day. Also on the premises is the Aberdeen Farming Museum where you can learn about the history and innovations in agriculture within the last two centuries.

Fraserburgh visit the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses just a ten minute walk from the bus station. See the very first lighthouse on mainland Scotland built in 1787; a 16th century castle, Kinnaird Head castle, with a full size lighthouse right in the middle; and a museum with everything you need to know about building and maintaining lighthouses.
