From Sunday 3 September there’ll be changes to bus routes and timetables throughout the Dover, Deal and Sandwich areas. The changes will also affect services between Thanet and Sandwich, Canterbury and Sandwich, and Canterbury and Dover.
If you travel by bus in the above areas you’ll need to know about these changes.
Here’s a summary of what’s happening:
Thanet, Sandwich and Canterbury too!
New route 43 will operate between Thanet, Sandwich and Canterbury. Buses coming from Canterbury will either continue to Ramsgate and Westwood Cross or continue to Deal and Dover as new route 80 or 81. There’ll be no need to change bus at Sandwich - you can stay on and still get a through ticket. The new timetables show which buses continue to Ramsgate and which ones continue to Deal. This arrangement opens up new journey opportunities if you live between Canterbury and Sandwich. You’ll now be able to travel through to Discovery Park and Thanet as well as to Deal.
Make the most of the coast!
New routes 80 and 81 will run between Sandwich, Deal and Dover. Route 80 will serve Worth, Hacklinge and Sholden village to Deal and continue to Dover. Route 81 will serve Eastry, Betteshanger (Northbourne Road and Broad Lane), Sholden (main road) to Deal and continue to St Margaret’s and Dover. In the other direction, most route 80 and 81 buses will continue beyond Sandwich as route 43 to Canterbury. There’ll be no need to change bus at Sandwich - you can stay on and still get a through ticket. The new timetables show which buses continue to Canterbury.

Why are we making these changes?
We’ve invested a lot in new technology such as contactless payment, the Stagecoach Bus App and mobile tickets, but we also recognise that you want a good bus service that you can depend upon. We believe that these changes will help us to offer more reliable bus services that meet the challenge of traffic congestion on the roads and the changing needs of the communities that we serve. Passenger usage and journey patterns have changed over recent years and it’s now time that we adapt the network to reflect this in the services that we offer.
I can’t find info about bus services where I live..
Stagecoach will continue to operate a number of schoolday bus routes to and from schools in the area. We’re currently preparing revised timetables for each individual school and these will be available on the schools page of our website very soon. Alternatively you can use our website journey planner to find bus journeys between your home and school.
Apart from school-time buses, villages such as Staple, Tilmanstone, Northbourne and Great Mongeham will continue to be served by a County Council funded shopper service operated by Regent Coaches. For more details on this please check with Kent County Council.
