Thanet Loop frequency increase

From 2 June 2024, we’re increasing the level of service on the Thanet Loop by 25%. That means the Loop will be getting Loopier; boosting the frequency of buses to every 8 minutes on Mondays to Saturdays.

The uplift will help make the Loop more reliable and convenient for the people who make nearly 10 thousand trips on the service every single day. And it will mean there’s more capacity for more people to make the switch and use the buses.

Frequency increase Thanet Loop

Why is it happening?

Stagecoach has been working in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC) to deliver a 'Superbus' scheme for Thanet. Superbus is one of three bus priority initiatives in Kent supported by funding from central government as part of Kent’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.

The Thanet scheme will deliver a KCC led programme of bus priority and reliability measures targeting bus journey-time improvements on the route of the Loop; Thanet’s principal bus service. In return Stagecoach is making this unfunded enhancement to the service to unlock the benefits for the community that the Superbus measures will bring.

The Thanet Loop is crucial in providing connectivity to people who use public transport as their main way of getting around, and significantly contributes to the high level of bus use in Thanet. It is one of the most used bus services in Kent, generating over 3 million passenger trips a year.

This is equivalent to roughly 10,000 passenger trips per weekday which is comparable to passenger levels on the most successful bus services in London. This uplift will mean the Loop will once again become Kent's most frequent bus service.
