We’ve had a fantastic response to our bus survey and are pleased to confirm we will make some changes to our plans following your feedback:
We need more buses on service 9
We’re not currently in a position to change service 9, but we are in discussions with West Sussex County Council regarding future options. We will commit to reviewing service 9 within the next 12 months.
Angmering needs buses on a Sunday!
We’ll run buses from Worthing to Angmering on a Sunday as part of service 10. The revised plans mean service 10 will not serve Durrington Tesco on a Sunday, and will instead serve Worthing and Boxgrove, before running along the A259 to Angmering.
Buses on service 11 don’t run late enough
We’ll add a later evening bus for service 11 with last buses from Worthing at 2140 and Littlehampton at 2240 Monday to Saturday. We’ll keep these later buses under review for at least the next six months.
We need buses on Carisbrooke Drive!
We’ll change our plan and service 5 will call at stops on Carisbrooke Drive.
Will I pay twice to use services 700 & 701 along the coast?
We will continue to offer single through tickets on our Coastliner services 700 and 701 so you won’t need to pay twice if changing buses between these routes, this includes travel onwards on 700 services to Bognor Regis, Chichester and Portsmouth. Don’t forget, our DayRider and MegaRider tickets offer great value if you’re using several buses each day. Save an extra 20% on DayRiders when you buy a bundle of 5 on the Stagecoach Bus app.
Will there be new bus stops in Beaumont Park for service 11?
We’re working with West Sussex County Council to add new stops for Beaumont Park. We’ll update this page once we have news to share.
Will there be new bus stops on the A259 in Angmering and Ferring for service 701?
We’re meeting with West Sussex County Council to review options for bus stops on the A259. We’ll update this page once we have news to share.
Why is there no weekly ticket for Littlehampton?
We’ll introduce new Littlehampton DayRider & MegaRider tickets for services 9, 11 and 701, valid between Angmering or East Preston all the way to Littlehampton town centre. These tickets will also be valid on services 500 and 700 as far as Riverside Industrial Estate and service 9 as far as Lyminster Old Vicarage. The new tickets will save you money if you’re making a return journey or need to change bus. Save an extra 20% on DayRiders when you buy a bundle of 5 on the Stagecoach Bus app – that's just £4 per day. Our Gold Day and Week tickets are still the best tickets for changes of bus beyond Littlehampton to Chichester, Worthing or Brighton.
We received lots of requests for changes that we unfortunately aren't able to make. We're addressed these below to help explain our decisions.
We need more buses in Ferring and East Preston
We unfortunately face lengthy delays at Roundstone and East Preston railway crossings on a daily basis. Gates are closed for over 30 minutes every hour, sometimes for more than ten minutes at a time, affecting waiting customers at bus stops all along our route. We’ve met with Network Rail but understand there is no solution to help us. We can’t continue to have so many buses stuck in queues throughout the day, and it’s not been possible to find gaps between trains to write a frequent timetable. Our 30-minute service is based on the best service we can offer for the number of passengers using the buses today.
Why won’t the 700 run all along the way from Littlehampton to Brighton?
Traffic congestion, roadworks and level crossing delays are badly impacting our services today. To help keep buses on time, we need to shorten our longest routes and add time to make the journey to make them more reliable. Starting the 700 at Durrington makes a shorter route to Brighton with less chance of delay for most customers.
Why have you changed the Pulse service?
Durrington is a busy and growing community. By adding this area to our most frequent 700 service, we expect to help more people choose the bus for their trip into Worthing and beyond. We know small numbers of people make a journey between Lancing and West Worthing or Durrington. Some customers may instead choose services 7 or 9, or switch between our frequent service 700 and 701. Our Worthing DayRider tickets will be best value for anyone making a return trip or changing buses (save an extra 20% on DayRiders when you buy a bundle of 5 on the Stagecoach Bus app – that's just £4 per day in Worthing). Most Pulse customers will find more buses are running from a nearby bus stop with new services 5, 700 or 701.
We need a direct bus between Durrington and the Hospital
We can’t offer a direct bus from Durrington to the Hospital, because our main Durrington route will now be the 700 continuing to Shoreham and Brighton. The Hospital is in reach with a change of bus at Goring Shops or at Marine Parade. Service 701 will run every 15 minutes Mondays to Saturday and every 20 minutes on Sundays.
Can we have more Sunday buses on service 11?
We expect most customers using the current service 700 through Littlehampton will switch to the new service 701 running every 20 minutes. We see far fewer people catch Sunday buses through East Preston and Ferring, which is why service 11 will initially run every hour. We’ll keep this under review over the next few months.
Are there any changes to services 1, 7 or 9?
No – routes and times for these services will stay the same.
Why are there no through Single tickets for other services?
We currently only offer through tickets on our Coastliner services which are used by relatively small numbers of people. We’re not in a position to offer through Single tickets between every area we serve. With most customers making a return trip, DayRider tickets usually already offer best value, especially in the Littlehampton and Worthing ticket zones.
