Head of Safety

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a senior safety professional to join Stagecoach Supertram as Head of Safety. This role will lead and work with everyone at Supertram on ensuring we have a leading safety culture and robust safety management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Safety will:

  • Represent Safety within the Supertram Senior Management team, providing clear reports and updates, ensure that any emerging risks or concerns are addressed and ensure that a clear safety agenda is communicated
  • Champion the Company‚Äôs Safety Plan, ensuring engagement from the whole business to its delivery
  • Develop plans to maintain, and where necessary improve, the Safety Culture and performance throughout the Supertram organisation
  • Validate any changes to existing operations, or the introduction of new operations/activities so that any risks associated with the changes are understood and controlled
  • Be responsible for scheduling and delivering regular effective audits to verify on-going compliance with all applicable Safety legislation, Industry Standards and internal Safety Management System arrangements
  • Develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships through the regular liaison and interface with the ORR, Network Rail, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, RAIB and UKTram
  • Produce all Safety reporting both internally and externally, ensuring that Safety Key Performance Indicators and emerging trends are clearly communicated in order to provide further assurance of the Safety Management System
  • Manage the Safety Coordinator to ensure that day to day safety activities are delivered and comply with Safety legislation, Industry Standards and internal Safety Management System arrangements
  • Lead in the liaison with the Safety Representatives through regular engagement and structured meetings to achieve worker involvement and effective two way communications regarding safety
  • Ensure that all incidents are properly investigated, root causes identified and suitable corrective actions implemented so as to avoid reoccurrence
  • Lead in ensuring that Supertram has the capability to respond effectively to emergency situations including the preparation, implementation, testing and review of emergency and contingency plans

Requirements for the Role:

  • We are looking for a strategic leader with a desire to enable optimum Safety performance.
  • You will be able to lead and motivate a team and drive high performance and standards.
  • It would be highly beneficial if you have proven experience of developing and implementing strategies and initiatives aimed at improving safety and environmental performance.
  • It is also highly beneficial that you have had significant exposure to leading incident investigation and are able to produce concise and detailed reports.

    Please note this role carries an On Call requirement.
