What is the Bus Fare Cap (£3 Fare Cap Scheme)?

The National bus fare cap Scheme is a government funded scheme on most single fares (including Child and Student fares) on bus journeys across England (outside London) from 1st January 2025. This means that the cost of a single ticket will be capped at a maximum of £3 on eligible routes for the duration of the scheme.

The £3 maximum fare cap will keep bus travel affordable, helping millions of people access better opportunities and protect vital bus routes, particularly lifeline services in rural communities. Also to encourage more people to make local journeys by bus, helping to reduce carbon emissions. Capped means that’s the maximum amount a customer will pay for a single ticket on eligible routes for journeys that start in England.
