Stagecoach extend discounted travel offer for young people until after easter

29 Feb 2016

  • £2 Dayrider* tickets offer for under 19s extended until after Easter
  • Promotion offers discounts of up to 58%**
  • More than 300,000 discounted tickets bought during initial five week period
  • Discounted travel available at all Stagecoach regional companies across UK

Young people across Cumbria and North Lancashire are able to benefit from lower bus fares after Stagecoach extended a national offer.

Following the successful introduction of a £2 Dayrider ticket for under 19s across the country, the offer has been extended for a further six weeks to allow young people to benefit over the Easter period.

More than 300,000 tickets offering unlimited travel within local regions were sold across the country during February.

Stagecoach hopes the extension of the offer will help young people get out and about over the Easter holidays when many under 19s have time off from school or college or are travelling to and from work.

Discounts of up to 58%** are available compared to current Dayrider* ticket prices and the tickets build on the existing offers Stagecoach has in place for millions of young people across the UK.

In particular, young people who use bus services to travel to job interviews, appointments and part-time employment can benefit from the extension of this cut-price offer.

Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director Robert Montgomery said:"We are delighted that this discounted ticket has been so successful and are pleased to be able to announce the extension of the offer until 10 April. We hope that young people continue to see the benefit of the tickets and take advantage to get out and about over Easter.

“Across the UK, our bus companies already provide very good value discounts for children, students and young people. This promotion makes taking the bus even better value for money and we hope lots of young people will continue to take advantage of the offer.”

The tickets will be available to purchase on board the bus. Full details can be found at: www.stagecoachbus.com

Bus  travel  is  the  most  popular  mode  of  transport  used by Britain’s commuters,  with  5.2  billion  bus journeys in the UK each year. Stagecoach has three times been independently assessed as offering the lowest fares of any major bus operator in the UK.

The company has invested more than £630million over the past eight years in hundreds of new buses and coaches for local communities. Stagecoach is also making a multi-million pound investment in new technology. The company recently launched a new, fully mobile, UK Bus website which lets customers check live running times for their services and buy travel from their smartphone.

Stagecoach also previously launched the country’s first long-term nationwide discount for jobseekers, giving those with a JobCentre Plus travel card a 50% discount on their bus travel to help them find employment. The offer has been taken up by over 350,000 job seekers since it was launched in 2012. The scheme is funded entirely on a commercial basis by Stagecoach without any public sector support.
