Mansfield bus service extended in response to public demand

Funding secured to enable Stagecoach East Midlands to extend the Number 16 Clipstone service to include a route on Cavendish Park estate has proven successful

The extended number 16 Clipstone route was launched in February this year and has proven popular with residents, running every 20 minutes to Mansfield town centre.

Stagecoach East Midlands extended the bus service to include Cavendish Way estate, following requests from the public and negotiations between Stagecoach, housing developers, local councillors and MPs together with Nottingham City Council.

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands said: ‘’We are pleased that the number 16 route has been so popular since it was introduced in February. We believe that bus travel should be easy and accessible for all, which is why we have extended the route to connect Cavendish Way estate with Mansfield town centre.”

The local MP in Clipstone, Mark Spencer, has supported Stagecoach East Midlands in the development of the project. He said: “I am delighted to back the extension of the number 16 bus service to ensure that the residents of Cavendish Park have the appropriate services they require. I am sure that the development of such a popular route will provide an excellent service for residents. This is really positive for Cavendish Park and for Clipstone generally, and I’m really pleased to have been able to help secure this.”

Councillor Phil Rostance, Vice Chairman of Communities & Place Committee, Nottinghamshire County Council, added: “It is important for residents to have a reliable service that connects them to their place of work, key services and leisure activities. We’re delighted to see Stagecoach East Midlands extend their current route to provide these connections to many more people living in the Mansfield area.”

The route can carry up to 270,000 passengers a year, and bus users travelling to and from Mansfield can benefit from Stagecoach’s Megarider Plus tickets. The 7 day ticket provides unlimited travel in and around the town and surrounding areas for a week.
