Stagecoach East Midlands announce service changes during Birchwood and Doddington Park roadworks

Stagecoach East Midlands has today announced changes to bus services designed to reduce disruption throughout the upcoming roadworks at the junction of Birchwood Avenue and Skellingthorpe Road.

The service changes will include amendments to the Service 6 and Service 9 routes operating in Birchwood and Doddington Park, with timetable and frequency adjustments to allow passengers extra time for travel. Stagecoach East Midlands has also announced a temporary replacement for Service X6.

From Monday August 7 2023, City of Lincoln Council will begin works at the junction of Skellingthorpe Road and Birchwood Avenue. The implementation of temporary traffic lights will potentially result in increased congestion and longer bus journey times, particularly during peak hours.

Works at the junction are in preparation for the Western Growth Corridor development, one of the largest projects undertaken in Lincoln for decades, bringing more than £500 million worth of investment into the city over the course of its lifetime. Stagecoach East Midlands’ service changes aim to reduce the impact of the works, which are expected to last up to a year.

The following service changes will come into effect from Monday August 7 2023:

Service 6: This route will be amended to run via Skellingthorpe Road between the city centre and Birchwood in both directions; for travel across Birchwood, passengers will need to change buses at the Neighbourhood Centre. The frequency of Service 6 will be increased to every 15 minutes.

Service 9: This route will be amended to run via Doddington Road between the city centre and Doddington Park/Birchwood in both directions; for travel to Skellingthorpe Road, Hartsholme and Swanpool, passengers will need to change buses at the Neighbourhood Centre. Buses will run every 30 minutes

Service 19: Timetable adjustments have been made to this route to ensure enough time is available to pass through the temporary traffic lights.

X6 Service: this route will be suspended between the Central Bus Station and Birchwood. A replacement Service 4 will run every half hour between the Central Bus Station and the County Hospital; through tickets will be available.
