Stagecoach East Midlands announces enhancements to Newark town bus services

Stagecoach East Midlands has today announced enhancements to Newark’s town bus services, ensuring greater connectivity, frequency, and convenience for local passengers. These improvements, funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, will provide more regular services and better links across the town.

From Monday February 24 2025, Newark’s town services will be renumbered and improved. Service 1N will serve Balderton, Newark Bus Station, and Coddington, while Service 2N will operate between Hawtonville, Newark Bus Station, and Lincoln Road Estates. All town services will now run every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, with increased frequency on routes serving Coddington and Lincoln Road Estates, making bus travel more convenient for passengers. 

Additionally, Hawtonville will now benefit from direct links to Northgate Retail Park and Business Centre, improving access to key employment and shopping destinations. Passengers will also benefit from the cross-town services now running within walking distance of Newark Northgate Railway Station, making it easier to connect with regional and national rail services.

All services will run via Newark Bus Station, enhancing town centre access and allowing for easier connections to onward travel, including the hospital.

Passengers in Coddington will see their service improve from hourly to every 30 minutes, ensuring greater flexibility and ease of travel. Likewise, those in Lincoln Road Estates will now benefit from a half-hourly frequency running until 18:45, offering more travel options into the evening.

Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “I welcome the improvements to the 1N and 2N service as it meets passenger demands and will mean it’s a more reliable service and offers value for money. The frequency of the buses will be improved to every 30 minutes, and will now include the bus station as part of the routes. The latter is something that residents have been requesting for some time now and so this is a great example of how we have listened to what local people would like to see. 
 
“This has also been made possible thanks to Bus Service Improvement Plan funding and our close working with Stagecoach East Midlands. I would also like to remind passengers that they can purchase a Newark All-Rounder ticket that entitles them to use any bus operator around Newark and the surrounding areas."

Stagecoach remains committed to offering affordable travel options, with single journeys costing £2.50, and a £2.50 transfer fare available between Services 1N and 2N. Unlimited travel for a day is available with the £4.00 Adult DayRider or the £2.90 Young Persons DayRider, ensuring cost-effective travel for all.
