Celebrating 10 Years of Halbeath Park and Ride

22 Nov 2023

November 2013 saw Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere in London, Sony launched the PlayStation 4 selling one million units on its first day, Pharell Williams released his hit single “Happy” and the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who aired on BBC 1 starring the 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi for the first time. Even bigger news, however, was the opening of Halbeath Park and Ride in Fife. Yes, if you can believe it, Halbeath Park and Ride will be ten years old on the 25th November 2023. Where has the time gone?

For those who don’t know, Halbeath P&R is a park and ride facility situated in South Fife, in a prime location for travel to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Construction of the site was a joint initiative between Transport Scotland, the Scottish Government and Fife Council as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing Project to tackle congestion problems during the construction of the Queensferry Crossing offering an alternative to Ferrytoll Park and Ride.

The park and ride, located to the east of Dunfermline, now sees 449 departures of bus services per day and averages 27 departures per hour. The facility has seen 860,000 users so far in 2023 and the average parking capacity is 62.50%. Buses pick up passengers from the six stances located outside the waiting area and there are free car parking spaces on the other side of the waiting area that can house 1124 cars. There are also 20 electric car charging bays so you don’t need to worry about keeping your car charged. Plenty of reasons to leave the car and take the bus.

The park and ride facility is operated as a partnership between Stagecoach East Scotland and Fife Council. Stagecoach operates most of the bus services in and out of the park and ride with 13 different services using the facility including our Express services to Edinburgh and Glasgow and our JET747 service to Edinburgh Airport – the only direct public transport link between Fife and Edinburgh Airport.

Halbeath P&R has proved to be hugely popular over the ten years it has been in existence so far and will no doubt continue to grow as usage of the local services calling at the site increases in response to demand over the next ten years.

To celebrate this big birthday, we are holding a celebration on Saturday 25th November (ten years to the day) at the park and ride. We will have cake, some lovely freebies to give away and you can get a FREE DayRider to use any time before the 31st December 2023. So come along to celebrate with us and you can pick up some of our birthday treats!

We hope to see as many people there as possible. If you are reading this after the 25th November then unfortunately the event has come and gone.

All that is left to do is to wish Halbeath Park and Ride a very happy birthday!
