- Stagecoach East Scotland had three representatives at this year’s Bus Driver of the Year Awards
- Dunfermline depot driver Brian Mackie was the highest-placed Stagecoach driver, and took 3rd place overall.
On Sunday 1st September, 97 bus drivers from across the UK participated in the final of the Bus Driver of the Year Awards in Blackpool. They were put through their paces with a series of tests including a theory examination and an on-road driving course incorporating precision driving manoeuvres along a specially registered bus route called Middle Walk, travelling along the iconic Blackpool Promenade.
Stagecoach East Scotland had three drivers represented at the competition with Brian Mackie from Dunfermline depot finishing 3rd, the highest-placed Stagecoach driver in the competition. Not only did Brian take home a trophy, he won a whopping £2000 for finishing in 3rd place. Having worked with Stagecoach since October 2002, serving 22 years with the company as a PCV driver, Brian is delighted to be recognised at such a high level.
Aleksei Solovjov and Angela Robb, also from Stagecoach’s Dunfermline depot, were part of the competition and placed in a very respectable 40th and 79th.

Congratulations go to Brian who yet again performed exceptionally to finish in 3rd place overall. There's a significant amount of work that goes into preparing for the event, as well as hosting our own event in Dunfermline and I'd like to praise everyone for their efforts this year".
Dunfermline depot Operations Manager, Lee Strachan said: “We are really proud to have had Angela, Aleksei and Brian from East Scotland competing in this year’s Bus Driver of the Year final in Blackpool. The standard at this year’s competition was very high and we are delighted with how Angela, Aleksei and Brian performed. We would like to congratulate Brian on his success this year, placing 3rd overall and being the Highest-Placed Stagecoach competitor at this year’s competition which really is a fantastic achievement.”
