New electric buses arrive on Tayway

11 Jul 2025

  • 16 new electric double-deck buses have arrived at Stagecoach’s Arbroath depot
  • Vehicles will run on Stagecoach’s service 73, also known as the Tayway
  • Six additional single-deck electric buses will arrive later this year.

16 new double-deck electric vehicles have arrived in Angus, running on Stagecoach East Scotland’s Tayway 73 service. The vehicles are the latest Alexander Dennis Enviro400 EVs and make journeys quieter, cleaner and smoother for the customers onboard.

The new electric vehicles are another big step for Stagecoach in reaching its sustainability goals and are also a massive win for passengers using the services. With zero emissions and near silent operation, they’re helping to cut down on pollution and noise, making traveling by bus greener, as well as much more comfortable for Stagecoach customers.

The new vehicles feature next stop announcements, helping customers with visual or hearing impairments, those new to the area and regular customers know where they are and when to get off.

The buses will run on Stagecoach’s Tayway network with the 16 double-deck buses being used on service 73. Six additional single-deck buses will join the fleet later in the year and will be on Tayway service 72.

To celebrate the introduction of these improvements to bus services in the local area, Stagecoach, in partnership with Tay FM, are hosting an event at West Links in Arbroath on Friday 18 July between 12noon and 3pm. Anyone who is interested in trying out the new vehicles, learning about bus services in the area and getting their hands on some Stagecoach goodies, can come along and find out more.

Sarah Elliott, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East Scotland said:

"We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce our new electric double deck buses on the Tayway route. These state-of-the-art Enviro400 EVs offer a quieter, smoother, and more environmentally friendly journey, giving our customers a truly upgraded travel experience between Arbroath and Dundee."

"This is just the beginning. We’re looking forward to rolling out more electric buses across our Tayway network later this year—so watch this space! It’s all part of our commitment to deliver cleaner, greener, and more modern transport for communities across East Scotland."

Tayway service 73 operates hourly between Arbroath, Dundee city centre and Ninewells Hospital, with journeys serving Easthaven, Carnoustie, Monifieth and Broughty Ferry too.  Service 72 runs between Arbroath and Ninewells up to every 30 minutes via Ethiebeaton Park offering a regular frequency of buses along the East Coast. Customers can download the Stagecoach Bus App to plan their journey, track live buses and buy tickets.
