Stagecoach Merseyside has strengthened its partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, whose Roald Dahl Nurses provide support and care to local children and families living with complex and lifelong conditions.
Specialist nurses* visited the operator’s Gillmoss depot in Croxteth on Tuesday 28th October to raise employee awareness about the vital work they do across the region.
The visit is one of several taking place across the country, after Stagecoach announced that it had renewed its national partnership with the charity and agreed to double its annual donation to £50,000 for 2025.
The visit will aim to kickstart a campaign of regional fundraising; which will start with Gillmoss Engineering Manager, Richard Burns and Assistant Manager, David Vosper running for the charity at the Silverstone Half Marathon event on 23 November.
Simon Tramalloni, Interim Operations Director at Stagecoach Merseyside, said:
“The work undertaken by the Roald Dahl nurses is truly inspirational and it was a privilege for us at Stagecoach Merseyside to host them today and understand just how big of an impact they are having on local lives.
“Those who attended, myself included, were left humbled by the work they do to not only support children, but also their families, in some of the most difficult and stressful situations possible.
“I know my colleagues and I will be keen to play an active role and provide as much support as possible over the coming months; whether it’s bake sales, pub quizzes or even sporting events.
“This partnership reflects the deep values of our people and our organisation - to care, to give back, and to help create a more inclusive and supportive society.”
Sophie Fanning-Tichborne, Director of Fundraising & Communications at the charity said:
“Our visit to Stagecoach Merseyside was a wonderful opportunity to share the real impact of their support and the difference it’s making to seriously ill children and their families. We left feeling inspired by their enthusiasm and shared purpose, and are grateful for their support.”
In 2024, the Stagecoach ‘Giving for Good’ Committee donated £25,000 to support the charity’s critical work to establish Roald Dahl Nurses in NHS Trusts across the UK to support children living with complex, lifelong conditions.
There are currently over 250 Roald Dahl Nurses supporting over 40,000 children and their families, but the charity – which fundraises to establish these innovative new roles – knows there is work to be done as tens of thousands of families still don’t benefit from this bespoke and personalised care. Building on their legacy, Stagecoach has increased its annual donation to £50,000 for 2025
