Women In Bus - Kym Michie

23 May 2023

It is Women’s Day in Scottish Bus Week, and we are looking at women that work in the bus industry. In this blog, we are showcasing Kym Michie, a Duty Controller at Inverness Depot as she answers some questions on her involvement in the project and some words on of encouragement to women who might be interested in getting involved.

Firstly, Kym tells us how long she has been with Stagecoach/in the bus industry.

‘3 years and 3 months’

She then detailed her current role and any previous roles she had and what she did before she joined the industry.

‘Currently, Duty Controller and previous roles are Driver & Driver Mentor’. Before I joined the industry, I was a taxi driver and hairdresser.

Kym goes on to describe the most rewarding part of her job.

‘At the end of the day knowing you played a part in running services all over the Highlands’.

She then goes on to talk about the most challenging part of her job and what has been her proudest moment/biggest achievement so far.

‘In terms of challenging it would be keeping track of everything that’s going on when the day gets chaotic and the proudest moment/biggest achievement would be developing a plan when something has gone wrong and seeing it all come together in the end is so rewarding.’

Lastly, Kym says what she would tell other women who might be interested in joining the industry.

‘Do it, no two days are ever the same and you’ll never look back.’
