With a 1950s style pink ice cream parlour, that lingering smell of vinegar in the air and sand between your toes, get the true English seaside experience with minimal effort to travel there!  

 

For the historians 

Hop off at Ramsgate’s stunning maritime harbour and take a trip to the Ramsgate Tunnels to see World War II bunkers and learn so much more about the town’s incredibly rich history. Followed by a bite to eat in Little Ships, a restaurant where its interior is filled with WWII memorabilia, its name inspired by the boats that set sail from Ramsgate to Dunkirk to rescue soldiers in 1940.  

 

A literature geek? Hop off at the Baptist Church in Broadstairs and make your way to the seafront where you can visit Dickens Museum and discover more about the literature legend in the cottage that inspired the story of David Copperfield

For antiquarians hunting for those hidden gems… Hop off at St Ethelbert’s Church and take a one-minute stroll down Honeysuckle Road where you will find yourself at Kent’s largest indoor marketplace, Petticoat Lane Emporium. Pick up antique goods, statement fashion pieces, collectables, furniture and so much more! 

 

Heading to Margate, hop off at Cecil Street Council Offices and make your way towards the old town for an abundance of vintage clothing stores, including the Old Kent Market along Margate seafront!  

 

For the music lovers and thrill seekers 

From big, intense crowds to intimate gigs… Thanet’s music scene has burst to make a name for itself, with Ramsgate Music Hall being named the best small venue in 2016 by NME. Hop off at Effingham Street and make your way to the town centre to see the latest bands making waves.  

 

Festivals more your style? Margate’s Dreamland has hosted many high-profile artists over the years including Sugababes, Craig David and Noel Gallagher to name a few! Also an amusement park, make the most of your trip to Dreamland with roller-skating, fair rides, arcades and cotton candy, nothing beats the smell of warm sugary donuts filling the air!
