A Stagecoach bus driver has been hard at work preparing for the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
Garry Warren, a driver at the bus operator’s Thanet depot has been prepping for the half marathon, set to take place on the 2nd of April. The event will see him run across the capital city, taking in the sights of Big Ben, London Eye and the Tower of London.
Garry, who has been a bus driver for over 20 years in Kent and London, is a keen marathoner who has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years.
His most recent challenge was the 5k colour run in Cliftonville in October last year, taking part with colleagues and his daughter.
This time, Garry is raising money for Tommy’s, the UK charity who fund vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth, to save babies lives and support parents with free pregnancy health information.
Garry has gone the extra mile to fundraise for the charity, already logging 100 miles of training ahead of the big day and creating a raffle at his depot where colleagues will guess his nearest finishing time of the half marathon. When out on the road, the runner has been driving his bus with a collection box for passengers to donate. He’s even had a fellow participant of the event hop on his bus.
Garry spoke of the reception he’s had from passengers: “When I speak with customers, they are really impressed with the fundraising I’ve done over the years”
“I’m getting really excited about race day, training is going really well. Now it’s time to taper down for the big day!”
