Local bus operator Stagecoach has announced a shake-up of its services in the Canterbury and north Kent area.
Included in the changes from 5 May, will be a revamp of the popular ‘Triangle’ route linking Whitstable, Canterbury and Herne Bay. Buses between Tankerton, Whitstable and Canterbury will be numbered 400 and 401, while buses between Herne Bay, Sturry and Canterbury will be numbered 600, 601 and 602.
The bus company says over 2.7 million passenger journeys were made on Triangle buses in the year 2023-24, representing about 85% of the numbers travelling before the Covid pandemic.
Stagecoach Commercial Director, Matthew Arnold said “Bus transport is continuing to make a gradual recovery, but there’s still some way to go before we see passenger levels back up to where they were five years ago.
“Part of the solution is to create more robust and reliable timetables with reduced interworking that helps limit the knock-on effect when roadworks and traffic congestion cause delays.
“We’re also able to return a commercial bus service to Estuary View Medical Centre, on a trial basis.
“While we recognise that changing things can be disruptive, we hope the new route arrangements will make it easier for people to navigate the bus network and encourage more people to use their local buses more often.”
The bus operator has published new timetables on its website this week that will take effect from Sunday 5 May which can be found here.
