Changes to bus services in Canterbury, Whitstable & Herne Bay from Sunday 7 June 2026

From Sunday 7 June 2026, there will be changes to some routes and timetables across Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

We've reviewed the network to help improve reliability and punctuality across the area, as traffic congestion in and around Canterbury continues to be one of the biggest causes of delays to services.

While some routes will see direct timetable or service changes, this review has looked at how the wider network operates so we can provide more reliable journeys for customers across Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay - including on routes that are not directly changing.

We're also adding extra journeys on some routes to give customers more travel options, including on the X3, which will now have earlier morning and later evening journeys, and on route 25 to help people travel to and from Kent & Canterbury Hospital more easily for work, education and appointments.

In some areas, services have been revised to reflect current passenger numbers and help improve journeys across the wider network.

What's changing:

Timetables will be adjusted to improve punctuality and reliability
Some journeys will be revised to better match passenger demand
Extra journeys will be added to the X3 between Canterbury and Maidstone and 25 to Kent & Canterbury Hospital

36	Westcliff - Herne Bay - Hillborough - Margate town centre - QEQM Hospital	Minor timetable changes to improve reliability. Additionally, the service will be rerouted Margate bound via George V Avenue, Hartsdown Road, Tivoli Road and Beatrice Road to the QEQM. The service will stop at Margate Cecil Square on the return journey.	Click here for timetable
43 / 44	Canterbury - Wingham - Ash - Sandwich	The 44 morning journey will reroute via Adisham and no longer serve Staple. This route will replace the 89B in Adisham and Bekesbourne for children attending Canterbury schools.	Click here for timetable
89	Canterbury - Aylesham	The morning 89B will be renamed service 89 and will follow the normal route. This will give additional capacity for children in Aylesham attending Canterbury schools. Children in Adisham and Bekesbourne will need to catch service 44 in the morning. The afternoon 89B is unchanged.	Click here for timetable

602 / 603	Canterbury - Sturry - Broomfield - Beltinge - Herne Bay	602 - the 2.31pm journey from Canterbury will now depart at 2.21pm. 602 - the 4.40pm journey from Canterbury will now depart at 4.50pm. 603 - the 3.20pm journey from Herne Bay High School will now depart at 3.30pm and will start from Herne Bay Railway Station on Wednesdays only, when the school closes early.
