Ceasing of the 92 service after 10 October 2026

The Aylesham 92 service, which Stagecoach South East operate on behalf of Dover District Council, will cease operating after Saturday 10 October 2026, following the end of its Section 106 funding.

Passenger numbers remain too low for the service to operate commercially without this funding. The service was changed from demand responsive transport to a scheduled service in November 2025 in an effort to improve its viability and extend the available funding, but usage has remained below the level required.

We have worked closely with Dover District Council and understand that alternative funding options have been explored, but no further funding is currently available to enable the service to continue.

This is an update regarding the Aylesham bus service (92 service), which has been funded by Section 106 monies from the Aylesham housing development.

Cabinet approved a decision in October 2025 to change the contract from the demand responsive service to a regular bus service; to seek to provide a more viable service and extend the length of time the Section 106 monies could cover the cost of the service.

The 92 service has been running since November 2025 and the introduction of a regular service has enabled it to run for longer. However, passenger numbers still remain significantly below the levels required to make the service viable. 

DDC has considered alternative funding potential in discussions with KCC, however there is currently no alternative funding available to subsidise this service, which has a relatively high cost per user, due to the low passenger usage.

The service will therefore have to stop running and its last day of operation is Saturday 10 October.

We recognise that this is disappointing and will affect residents who use the service. Kent County Council (KCC) is the responsible authority for bus services in the District, as well as for the County's Bus Improvement Plan. We are aware of the ongoing challenges around the availability of rural bus services, and this remains an issue that the Council continues to raise and discuss with KCC.
