Stagecoach recognises star employees in South Wales

• Every month Stagecoach employees can nominate Stars across the business
• Awards recognise excellence over key areas including service to customers, safety, health and wellbeing, environment, community and innovation

Two employees from Stagecoach South Wales have been recognised for their heroic actions and excellent customer service. Mohammed Ismail was named the winner of Star of the Month and Leanne Morgan received highly commended in the Stagecoach monthly awards. Star of the month is designed to recognise Stagecoach shining stars and employees who have gone above and beyond their everyday roles.

Mohammed, a relief duty Manager for Stagecoach Cwmbran depot and an LGBTQ+ rep was nominated by his Manager for his heroic actions which saved a man’s life recently. Mohammed was driving a bus service in Cwmbran and came to a stop whilst waiting for fire services to pass. While stationary, he was approached by a distressed women who needed help as her elderly father had lost consciousness in the back of her car. Mohammed acted quickly, called the emergency services and followed guidance from the operator to resuscitate the gentleman. The gentleman regained consciousness before the emergency services arrived and both the family and emergency services praised Mohammed for his brave actions.

Leanne a bus driver from Porth depot was nominated by a colleague as she went out of her way to assist an elderly customer. Leanne kindly helped the gentleman off the bus at his stop and then walked him across the road safely whilst protecting him from the rain with an umbrella. A passer-by witnessed Leanne’s act of kindness and took a photo which was shared on Facebook receiving over 100 comments of praise from the public.

Mark Tunstall, Head of Operations for Stagecoach South Wales met Mohammed and Leanne to award certificates and present Mohammed with £100 shopping vouchers and Leanne with £50 shopping vouchers.

Mark said: “We are extremely proud of Mohammed and Leanne. Mohammed showed true courage, his fast actions saved a life while Leanne went above and beyond her driving role by helping a vulnerable customer to safety. They truly embody our brand values ‘we care’ and ‘we do the right thing’ and thoroughly deserve to be recognised as Stagecoach Stars. Well done to them both”.
