Stagecoach South Wales is celebrating a remarkable milestone, with over 60 older people taking part in its Grand Day Out initiative to date. Three specially arranged trips have now taken place, including the most recent outing to the historic Cardiff Castle. The initiative offers connection, adventure, and unforgettable experiences to older people across the region.
On March 24th, 20 participants boarded a Stagecoach bus at Caerphilly Interchange for the latest Grand Day Out, heading to the heart of Cardiff City Centre. The day’s highlights included a tour of the Bute family’s castle house, showcasing stunning Victorian interiors that left attendees with unforgettable memories.
Martin Gibbon, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Wales, shared his thoughts on the event: “Reaching over 60 participants through our Grand Days Out initiative is a proud moment for us. It has become an important part of what we do, providing a meaningful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Beyond the fun, it plays a vital role in combating loneliness and social isolation, and this initiative truly shows the power of public transport to connect people and improve lives. We’re excited to see the programme grow and reach more people.”
Grateful for the experience, Christine, one of the attendees of the Caerphilly trip, said: "Today has been amazing to be honest, if somebody was thinking about getting a bus pass, I would say don't hesitate."
Participants also praised the convenience of their over-60s bus pass. One shared: “Get a bus pass, it saves you a lot of money. It’s so easy and you can go anywhere in Wales.” Another added: “I use my bus pass every day. The bus stop is right outside my house; shopping isn’t a problem because it’s off the bus and straight through the door.”
