Meet Adam Bate, One of Our Inspiring Engineering Apprentices

10 Feb 2025

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re proud to spotlight Adam Bate, an engineering apprentice at Stagecoach. Adam’s story exemplifies this year’s theme, Skills for Life, as he uses his apprenticeship to create a brighter future for himself and his family.

Adam Bate, Engineering Apprentice

With two young children to support, Adam was determined to progress at Stagecoach after starting his career as a bus driver. When an opportunity arose to join the Engineering Apprenticeship program at our Basingstoke depot, Adam seized it and hasn’t looked back since.

Now, Adam is working hard toward becoming a Mechanical Electrician, and we couldn’t be prouder of his dedication and positivity. As part of the engineering team, Adam plays a crucial role in ensuring our buses remain roadworthy, serviceable, and, most importantly, safe for our passengers.

“The best way to learn is just getting stuck in and being hands-on,” Adam says.

Three and a half years ago, Adam began his journey with Stagecoach as a bus driver at the Andover depot. His love for driving inspired him to think, “What better thing to do than just drive a bus and get paid to do it?”

Looking ahead, Adam plans to return to the Andover depot after completing his apprenticeship, reconnecting with former colleagues and pursuing new opportunities. He also envisions stepping into management roles in the future, continuing to grow within the company he loves.
