Accelerating Action - Tracey Soul’s Story

Celebrating International Women’s Day at Stagecoach South

In the build up to International Women’s Day, we celebrate Tracey Soul, a dedicated Driving Instructor at Stagecoach South. With over a decade of experience, Tracey plays a key role in training the next generation of bus drivers, ensuring they are well-prepared, confident, and safe on the road.

Tracey Soul, Driving Instructor

Guiding Future Drivers
From day one, Tracey introduces trainees to driving theory, road hazards, and case studies to prepare them for real-world challenges. She balances theory with hands-on driving, gradually building their confidence. Early training includes vehicle checks and practice on the A31 dual carriageway during quieter times. She also teaches essential reversing exercises to help trainees pass their tests.

Before their final test, Tracey guides each driver through one of six test routes in Winchester, emphasising lane discipline, mirror checks, and pinch points. Once they’re ready, she schedules their exam, marking their transition to becoming fully qualified drivers.

From Driver to Mentor
Joining Stagecoach South in 2014 as a Bus Driver, Tracey advanced to Mentor and then Driving Instructor, a role she has excelled in for over seven years. Though she enjoyed driving, she finds instructing more fulfilling, knowing she’s helping others succeed. Her patience and encouragement have earned her widespread appreciation, with many trainees expressing their gratitude through heartfelt gifts and messages. However, for Tracey, the real reward is seeing her trainees’ excitement when they pass their tests.

Breaking Barriers
As a woman in the transport industry, Tracey has faced challenges but has always felt respected. Now, she not only trains drivers but also mentors future Driving Instructors, fostering an inclusive learning environment for all.

“Some people call me ‘mum’ because I’m always happy to help,” she shares. Her supportive nature has made her a beloved figure among colleagues and trainees alike.

Driving Change
Tracey’s journey showcases the power of perseverance and mentorship in accelerating change within the industry. This International Women’s Day, we celebrate her contributions and the inspiring role women play in shaping the future of transport.

At Stagecoach South, we are committed to championing diversity and inclusion, ensuring women like Tracey continue to lead the way.
