Stagecoach launch new East Kilbride to Silverburn Service

• New hourly weekend service from 24th June 2017 
• Two Monday to Friday journeys 
• Direct link from East Kilbride and Newton Mearns to Silverburn 

Stagecoach West Scotland is delighted to announce the introduction of a new route that will directly connect Silverburn shopping centre to East Kilbride and Newton Mearns.

This will be the first service that directly connects all of these areas to Silverburn by public transport and will be operated on a fully commercial basis by Stagecoach West Scotland.

The route called the X18 will commence operation on Saturday 24^th June, operating an hourly service every Saturday and Sunday.  The first journey will depart from East Kilbride Bus Station at 0915 with the last service departing Silverburn at 2215.  A Monday to Friday service will depart from East Kilbride Bus Station at 1015 returning from Silverburn at 1415.  Luxury double decker coaches already used on the X76 service will be used on the route and will offer a relaxed journey with comfortable seating and free Wifi.

Stagecoach West Scotland Managing Director, Tom Bridge said: "We’re excited to offer a new route for people living in East Kilbride and Newton Mearns which connects them to the hugely popular Silverburn shopping centre. 

Shopping habits are changing from traditional high streets to out of town retail parks and we must change our services to meet our changing customer demands.  We believe there is a demand for this type of service particularly for those who don’t have access to a car and therefore have restricted access to these types of outlets.

Silverburn has grown in size year on year and is so much more than a shopping centre having several restaurants as well as a cinema. It has become an important leisure destination and we hope our new X18 service will prove popular in the local communities it will serve.”

"With the last weekend service departing the centre after 10pm, shoppers will be able to benefit from our fantastic leisure offering. We now have over 20 restaurants, as well as a 14-screen super-screen cinema with late night opening hours, which our customers from East Kilbride and Newton Mearns will now be able to enjoy before getting the luxury bus home."
