Stagecoach encourages visitors to leave the car at home for Ayrs August events

07 Aug 2026

Stagecoach is encouraging visitors to two of Ayr’s biggest events in August to leave their cars at home and opt for the convenient and sustainable travel option of the bus.

The Scottish Bowls National Championships will be held from 8-15th August, and the Ayr & District Flower Show will be held across the weekend of 14-15th August. These events are expected to attract thousands of visitors to the town. Stagecoach will provide travel options that connect not only local attendees but also visitors from surrounding areas to these two major summer events in Ayr, ensuring easy and convenient travel for everyone.

The Scottish Bowls National Championships is one of the country’s largest bowls events, with last year’s event attracting more than 16,000 spectators to Ayr. Taking place at the National Centre for Bowling, spectators can use a range of services throughout the event, including express services which provide direct links between Glasgow and Ayr and local services 2, 4, 6, 14 and 585 connecting those travelling to Ayr from surrounding towns.

The Ayr & District Flower Show is an annual two-day horticultural event held at Ayr Racecourse. The show features floral displays, gardening exhibits, craft stalls, entertainment, baking competitions, handicrafts, traders, food stalls and family-friendly activities.

Over the two days of the event, local services 2, 3, 6, 43A and 43/343 stop within a short walk of Ayr Racecourse, allowing visitors to enjoy the event without the hassle of driving and parking and choosing a more environmentally friendly way to travel.

Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Scotland, said: “With these travel options, we can connect visitors to both of Ayr’s biggest summer events, providing regular and convenient transport for all, reducing congestion in town centres and ensuring everyone can get around safely. We hope all visitors have a great time during both events!”

Customers can benefit from a range of convenient and cost-effective travel options during both events. Under-22s and over-60s are eligible for free bus travel with a valid National Entitlement Card, making journeys more accessible for younger and older passengers alike, helping connect local communities to these must-see events.

DayRider tickets offer unlimited travel throughout the day, and multi-buy and 7-day MegaRider tickets provide excellent value for those attending multiple days of both events. Group tickets are also available, offering a great option for families and friends travelling together.

Those looking to organise travel can use the Stagecoach Bus App. The app allows customers to easily plan their journeys, purchase tickets and track their bus in real time.
