- Stagecoach partners with MSP Siobhian Brown to encourage new drivers and engineers to join the Ayr operation
- Recruitment campaign aims to strengthen local bus services by growing the workforce at the Ayr depot
- Long-term career opportunities available supporting communities across Ayr and wider Ayrshire
Bus operator Stagecoach South Scotland has joined forces with Siobhian Brown to launch a new recruitment drive aimed at bringing fresh talent into its operation in Ayr.
The initiative follows a meeting on Monday 9 March between Stagecoach Commercial Director Fraser Smith and Ms Brown to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the local bus network.
Stagecoach operates from Sandgate Bus Station and its Waggon Road depot, employing a significant local workforce and providing vital public transport links across Ayrshire.
The bus operator is continuing to grow its team locally as it works to further strengthen service reliability and ensure it has the drivers and engineers needed to support communities across the region.
A series of successful job fairs towards the end of 2025 helped increase staff numbers locally. Stagecoach is now looking to build on that momentum by encouraging more people to consider a career in the bus industry.
Applications are currently being invited from people interested in becoming bus drivers and engineers, with Stagecoach offering training, competitive pay and long-term career opportunities supporting communities across Ayrshire.
Fraser Smith, Commercial Director for Stagecoach South Scotland, said:
“Stagecoach plays a vital role in keeping communities across Ayr and the wider region connected, and our colleagues are at the heart of that service.
“We’ve made good progress through recent recruitment activity, but we are keen to build further momentum and attract more talented individuals into the industry.
“Whether as a driver or an engineer, these roles offer stable, rewarding careers serving the local community.
“We were pleased to meet with Siobhian Brown MSP to discuss how we can work together to encourage more people to consider joining our team in Ayr.”
Siobhian Brown MSP said: “I was pleased to meet with Stagecoach to discuss the important role the company plays in keeping communities across Ayr and the wider area connected. Reliable bus services are vital for people getting to work, education and appointments, and that depends on having a strong local workforce.
“I welcome this recruitment drive and would encourage anyone interested in a stable and rewarding career to consider the opportunities available with Stagecoach locally.”
