Kids Go Free - Yorkshire bus operator welcomes public scheme to give under-16s free travel in August

After its launch on 1st August, a major Yorkshire bus operator has welcomed a new scheme that sees children under-16 travel for free on buses, across the region, throughout the month.

As part of the government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, children aged from five to 15 can travel with Stagecoach for free all of August, with only a few special services exempt. Children under five years old can travel for free all year round.

Speaking about the Great British Summer Savings Scheme, in July, Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, said: “I know that the cost of living is a concern for households across the UK, which is why we’re cutting the cost of the day-to-day, with free bus travel for

children this summer and the £3 bus fare cap helping more families make the most of the small plans that make life enjoyable.”
