Canine Capers - Stagecoach Yorkshire Helps Guide Dogs in Their Training

13 Oct 2026

Major local bus operator, Stagecoach Yorkshire, has opened its doors to some furry heroes, helping in the training of the next generation of guide dogs.

A partnership with Guide Dogs UK brought several of the amazing puppies to the operator to familiarise themselves with being on a bus, and then to experience going for a ride.

Janine Thompson-Davies, Training Coordinator, said: “We were delighted to welcome Guide Dogs UK for a truly rewarding experience. Our team had the pleasure of assisting with the training of several puppies, who had the wonderful opportunity to familiarise themselves with our Peak Sightseer bus and even embark on a journey.

“This collaboration represents an incredibly important contribution to our community, ensuring that guide dogs are fully equipped with the confidence and skills needed to navigate public transport with ease. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Nick Berke for his invaluable support and assistance on the day.”

Guide Dogs UK is the world’s largest assistance dog charity. It breeds, trains and matches guide dogs to help people with sight loss navigate safely and independently. Beyond dogs, it provides support for children, buddy dogs, sighted guiding training and other support services, enabling active, confident lives.

John Young, Commercial Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, added: “It was wonderful to play a part in developing these very special animals for the incredibly important work they will be doing.

“We know that many members of the blind and partially sighted community use our buses to get around, and we want them to know that we are here for them – as our company promise says: ‘we’ve got you’.”
