Back Stagecoach, We've got you

Everyone plays
a part in safety

Safety Matters

The safety of customers on our buses is paramount to us here at Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire & South Lancashire.

We continue to make sure our buses are as safe as can be. This is done by us carrying out ongoing checks & safety measures:

• Our buses are fitted with CCTV with added audio to provide added security

• Our drivers complete a Safe, Skilled and Fuel Efficient Driver programme as part of their training

• All our buses now use the Ecodriver behaviour system. This reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions. It also provides instant feedback to drivers to encourage smoother and safer driving

• We operate a maintenance program that's far more rigorous than the legal requirements.

• Our buses have the equivalent of an MOT every 21 days. They also have a rolling programme of operating and engineering audits

Whilst the above measures are being applied by us, we believe everyone plays a part in safety!

We’ve put together some simple pointers and guidance information for our customers who travel on our services – together, we can make the bus a safer place for everyone…

- Watch your step: be careful when getting on or off the bus. Look out for anything in your way and use the handrails to stay steady.

- Hold on when moving: hold onto the rails or handles when the bus is moving.

- Tell us about spills: if you see something spilled or slippery, tell the driver or bus staff right away. Quick action can stop accidents.

- Wait for the bus to stop: wait until the bus stops completely before standing up. Quick movements can lead to slips and falls.

- Secure your stuff: hold loose items to avoid tripping. Keep bags and personal things close during the ride.

- Mind the gap: be careful of the space between the bus and the platform or pavement. Take small steps and watch out to avoid tripping.

- Be careful in bad weather: on rainy or snowy days, be extra careful. Hold onto the rails, take small steps, and be extra cautious to avoid slipping.

- Ask for help: if you need help, ask the driver or bus staff. We’re here to make sure you stay safe during your journey.

To help us along the way in raising safety awareness within our local communities, we have recently started working in partnership with Merseyside Police TravelSafe Team at their “Crucial Crew” events.

These events focus on bus safety for young children, particularly as they prepare to enter high school. The first event recently took place in March at Childwall TA Barracks, Liverpool (Read more here) with further events planned throughout the year.

Remember, everyone plays a part in safety, and by following this, we can make the bus a safer place for everyone.
