Great value bus travel continues, with single journeys capped at no more than £2.50*
Bus travel is still a great value way to get from A to B
Across England, we’re taking part in the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme which means that from 1st January 2025, a single bus journey in England will be capped at a maximum of £3 - yes that’s less than a cup of coffee from a high street cafe.
In addition to the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme, there’s even better news if you’re travelling in the North East Combined Authority area (NECA), as single fares will be capped at £2.50! This local fare cap scheme covers most of Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Northumberland and is funded separately by the Combined Authority.
For more information, please visit the NECA page.
Will all single journeys cost £2.50?
£2.50 is the maximum you will pay for a single journey ticket in the NECA area. Lots of our fares will cost less - in fact most of single journeys across the region will be less than £2.50, offering great value on everyday trips especially within towns and cities. For those longer journeys, the fare cap ensures you will never pay more than £2.50 for a single trip. Where could your £2.50 take you?
What are the ticket prices across the North East?
In Newcastle, Sunderland and South Shields, adult single fares start at just £1.90 for a short trip, or £2.30 if you’re going a bit further. If you are travelling into or between areas, your single ticket will be capped at £2.50, no matter how far you go!
If you are under 21, you can still buy £1 single tickets.
