Never pay more than £3 for your single journey

Great value bus travel continues, with single journeys capped at no more than £3*

Bus travel is still a great value way to get from A to B

We’re taking part in the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme which means that from 1st January 2025, a single bus journey in England will be capped at a maximum of £3 - yes that’s less than a cup of coffee from a high street cafe.

Will all single journeys cost £3?

£3 is the maximum you will pay. Lots of our fares will cost less - in fact most single journeys across England will be less than £3, offering great value on everyday trips especially within towns and cities. For those longer journeys, the fare cap ensures you will never pay more than £3 for a single trip. Where could your £3 take you?

What are the ticket prices across the Tees Valley?

In Stockton and Middlesbrough if you are an adult you will only pay up to £3 for a single ticket. If you are travelling outside of one of these areas, your single ticket will still be capped at £3, no matter how far you go!

In Hartlepool, if you are an adult, you will only pay £2.20 for a single ticket. If you are travelling outside of Hartlepool, you single fare will still be capped at £3 no matter how far you go.

If you are under 21, the £1 single ticket remains.

Single ticket prices in your area

You can check the new single prices which will apply from 1st January 2025 in advance by using the journey planner on the Stagecoach website.

Are there any routes in my area excluded from the £3 fare scheme?

You'll never pay more than £3 for a single journey across all Stagecoach Tees Valley services, the only exceptions being our Tees Flex services.

Can I buy a single ticket on the bus?

Of course! You can pay for your ticket on the bus using contactless, either with a contactless-enabled bank card or via Apple Pay or Google Pay. Every Stagecoach bus in the region has a contactless-enabled ticket machine on board, so no matter what your destination is, you can tap, pay and go! We also still accept cash on all our buses.

So, ditch the car and expensive fuel prices, endless stop start traffic or fighting for that last car parking space next to the awkward bollard, and sit back and relax on a Stagecoach bus with your capped single journey ticket.

What other tickets are available on the app?

We have loads of great value Dayrider tickets, bundles of Dayriders (we call them ‘Flexi’) and weekly and monthly tickets available on the app, all stored on your mobile and ready for when you need to use them.

These multi journey tickets may be better value for you than single tickets if you travel regularly, download the app and use the journey planner to check the best fare for your journey.

Plan and buy on the Stagecoach App

How can I pay on the Stagecoach Bus App ?

We accept Apple Pay or Google Pay on the Stagecoach Bus App, as well as credit and debit card payments and PayPal, so there’s plenty of ways to pay for your ticket.

In the app:

  • Select ‘Add or change payment method’
  • Select your preferred payment option at the ‘Secure checkout’ screen
  • You can also save and store your card details to make your next payment even quicker
*The £3 fare is funded by the DfT (Department for Transport)

Please note, single tickets in the North East region cannot be purchased on the app. Please make your purchase of single tickets on-bus. For day tickets, weekly tickets or other, these can be purchased on the app.
