1 Pound Single Fares for 5-21 Year Olds

Single bus journeys are now just £1 if you’re between 16-21 years old (up to 22nd birthday) - all you need to do is apply for a free mytravelpass card!

When you have a mytravelpass card, you will be able to benefit from the Welsh Government fare cap scheme that started on the 1st September 2025. This scheme caps all single fares at £1 and day tickets at £3. 

What is mytravelpass?

mytravelpass is a discounted travel scheme funded by the Welsh Government giving young people in Wales between the age of 16 - 21 (up to your 22nd birthday) £1 single journeys, £3 day multi operator tickets and 30% off weekly or monthly tickets.

How do I apply?

You can apply for a mytravelpass on Transport for Wales website. 

Once your application has been received and processed, your mytravelpass card will be posted to your address.

What do with your pass?

Once you receive your MTP card in the post, you can buy your tickets on the Stagecoach Bus App or on bus. Or you can buy your £1 single ticket, £3 day ticket or 7 or 28 day tickets on the Stagecoach Bus App, your tickets will be loaded onto your phone. When you get on the bus, show both your mobile ticket and your MTP card to the driver

You can buy your tickets on the bus, please show your valid mytravelpass card to the driver and they will issue you with the correct ticket.  

What discounts can I get if I'm under 16 years old?

5-15 year olds can travel on buses across South Wales for just £1 per single journey, or a £3 day ticket.

Who can get a mytravelpass? 

Young people between the age of 16-21 (up until 22nd birthday). 

Failed Application? 

If your application fails, it may be because there's an incorrect detail or the photo hasn't been accepted. You'll be sent an email with details on what to do next, please follow the email instructions and try again. 

Do not start a new application again as this may stop you from completing the application.

I’ve received my mytravelpass card, how do I use it?

When you board the bus, tell the driver you would like a £1 single to your destination. Make sure you show the driver your mytravelpass card. 

If you have bought your ticket using the Stagecoach Bus App, then show your mobile ticket to the driver along with your valid mytravelpass card.

I’ve lost my card – can I still travel with the discount? 

No, you can only benefit from the discount with a valid mytravelpass card for each time you travel by bus. If you don’t have your card, you will have to pay the full adult fare.

*MTP is valid for discount on all Stagecoach in South Wales adult bus tickets. The pass does not provide proof of age. To qualify for your discount, you must carry your valid MTP card at all times when purchasing or using Stagecoach tickets. Any misuse could result in the withdrawal of the card.
