16-20 Bus Saver

Young people aged 16 to 20 can now qualify for a discounted bus fare with the launch of the ‘16 to 20 Bus Saver’ scheme developed by West Sussex County Council alongside bus operators and funded by the Department for Transport (DfT). 

The '16 to 20 Bus Saver’ means young people can benefit from reduced child rate fares offered by their local bus operator.


For example if you're under 21 and normally buy;

Gold DayRider for £8, you will now pay £6.

Gold 7 Megarider for £32, you will now pay £24.

What tickets are discounted?
Discounts are available on singles, returns and 7 day MegaRiders.

How do I get my discounted ticket?

You can pay with cash, a contactless device or the Stagecoach Bus App.

When buying your discounted ticket on the app make sure you select 'young person' ticket type, the driver will ask for valid ID when you board the bus along with your app ticket. 

Do I need to show ID to get a discounted ticket?

To get the discount, young people need to show a valid ID with date of birth or a Citizencard.

How long is the scheme on for? 

The new scheme is expected to run until March 2025. 

Do I need to be in education to be eligible for the ticket?

No, the 16-20 bus saver is for any young person travelling in West Sussex.
